National Volunteering Policy

“No matter how big and powerful government gets, and the many services it provides, it can never take the place of volunteers''  Ronald Reagan

Government of Kenya

and the Vision 2030

Role of Volunteerism in Achieving Vision 2030
Volunteerism as a way of responding to national challenges has been used both at community and state levels, but without much strategic thinking about its usefulness as a long-term developmental tool. Confronting this general acceptance of the relevance of volunteering is a national capacity gap to design and manage organized volunteerism. This presents great opportunities for the development of national volunteering initiatives in Kenya.
Challenges faced in volunteerism in Kenya
  • Lack of funding to do the campaigns or awareness
  • Lack of communication materials e.g. posters, brochures, website
  • Low membership participation by volunteer agencies in VIO network
  • Lack of volunteer management skills for those who deals with volunteers
  • Lack of awareness for those who want to volunteer and those want the volunteers
  • Lack of one stop shop where all volunteers and volunteer opportunities can meet
